Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety is a natural human emotion. When scary situations happen, anxiety is there to protect us, to keep us on edge, alert, and prepared for whatever happens.
The problem with chronic worry, is that the danger isn’t real. The worst-case scenarios are imagined ones, not real ones. But unfortunately, the anxiety survival response that kicks in doesn’t know the difference. Which is why it can feel like you’re going through the ringer, despite nothing bad actually happening.
We need a little worry to stay alive and stop us making reckless choices. But excessive worry about all the ways everything could go wrong is exhausting and a real stealer of joy.

Who experiences Anxiety?
As an Anxiety Therapist, there’s some common themes I see for who are most likely to be chronic worries amongst the Business Owners and High-Achievers:
The Analysers
If your job involves analysis, the likelihood is that you’ve really refined those skills. You’re great at looking at all the options, analysing, comparing, identifying possible outcomes etc. Which can be a brilliant asset in business, as long as it’s kept in check and doesn’t seep into our personal life.
The Creatives
The ability to visualise things is wonderful. The detail you can imagine, how real it can feel. Which is fine whilst it’s a product you’re creating. But when we are talking about worst case scenarios, the ability to visualise things in detail can be quite distressing.
The Control Freaks
You like to always be in control you like to have certainty, you prefer the knowns to the unknowns, like to know what’s coming. Unfortunately both our work and personal life is full of unknowns or things beyond our control, the harder you try to grip on, the further it gets out of reach.

What is GAD?

Symptoms of Anxiety
Because when we worry, we are living in a state of fear of the what if…’s”, our body’s response will be to stay alert, it’s trying to prepare us to deal with all these imagined disasters. Anxiety is a whole body and mind experience. It can feel incredibly intense, and at times concerning.
- Feeling on edge
- Digestive issues
- Muscle aches
- Headaches
- Insomnia
- Feeling of dread
- Trouble concentrating
- Exhaustion
- Easily overwhelmed
- Irritability
- Heart racing
- Shortness of breath
- Panic attacks
Worrying Excessively
Are you worrying excessively? Worries can cover a huge range of topics, and this list isn’t exhaustive, but gives some examples.
- What if I’ve forgotten something?
- What if I’m late?
- What if they don’t like me?
- What if I get sacked?
- What if they hurt themselves?
- What if it’s something serious that’s wrong with me? What if it’s cancer?
- What if I make the wrong choice?
- What if they end up in an accident?
- What if no one enjoys themselves?
- What if the train/plane gets cancelled?
- What if it’s a scam?
- What if there’s a terrorist attack?
- What if I don’t get it all finished in time?
- What if something goes wrong that I could have prevented?
For worriers, the process doesn’t just stop at these initial thoughts though. It’s often a domino effect, where one worry leads to another, and another, each time getting worse in imagined outcome.

My Unique Approach
Anxiety Therapist
As an experienced Anxiety Therapist, I will help you Overcome Anxiety, by helping you to rewire your thoughts and change the behaviours that are keeping you stuck in fear mode. I’ll help you to learn how to relax and sleep well so you can have better health.
It’s important to know that worry isn’t your identity, it isn’t your personality, it isn’t who you are. Underneath the worry is a person with desires that often are the exact opposite to the ways the anxiety and worry is causing them to live their life. How often have you thought “I wish I could just …” but the worries got in the way? This shows us it’s not who you are. Working with an Anxiety Therapist will help you to become more of the real you, to lift the anxiety so that you get to live the life you desire.
